Yanukovych backs amnesty idea if protesters vacate occupied buildings

27-01-2014 12:01

President Viktor Yanukovych agrees to a proposed amnesty for anyone who has taken part in the pro-European Union and anti-government protests ever since they started in November on condition that protesters vacate all the government buildings throughout Ukraine occupied by them. This was disclosed by Yanukovych's first deputy chief of staff Andriy Portnov.

Such an amnesty was proposed by opposition leaders during a meeting with Yanukovych at the president's office in Kyiv on Jan.25."The Ukrainian president agreed to this proposal, and we believe that this decision could be supported by the parliamentary majority on condition that all occupied premises are completely vacated throughout our country, including on Independence Square," Portnov said.
