03-07-2009 14:38 Museum of Sweden to open at Poltava Battle site
The Poltava authorities have preliminarily agreed with Swedish delegates to construct a museum of Sweden at the site of the Battle of Poltava before 2011, Poltava Mayor Andriy Miatkovsky has said.
“We made the proposal, and the Swedes agreed to open a museum at the battle site,” he said. The preliminary agreement foresees that in the Swedish museum, all tourists will have a chance to learn the history and culture of the country over the last 300 years. Miatkovsky said that tourist objects and infrastructure facilities would open at the site of the Battle of Poltava each year. According to tentative data, a total of 50,000 people visited the battle site on June 27 to mark the 300th anniversary of the battle.
