Nearly 43,000 people, including almost 16,000 children, have left the area of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in eastern Ukraine for other regions in the country, Head of the State Emergencies Service Serhiy Bochkovsky said at a briefing on Thursday.
"A total of 42,993 persons, including 15,839 children, 5,000 disabled and elderly people, have currently been resettled. Last day alone the number of displaced persons reached 1,092," he said. Bochkovsky noted that the problem with the evacuation from the ATO area of orphans and children deprived of parental care who are in specialized children's homes was currently being resolved. He noted that there were 179 children under the age of three in four orphanages in Donetsk region.
