This edition of Ukraine Global is about the movies created by Ukrainian and foreign directors about the war in Ukraine. Long before the beginning of Ukrainian-Russian war in 2014 film directors attempted to show all cultural peculiarities of our country. Among the first were outstanding writer and moviemaker Oleksandr Dovzhenko, who worked back in the 1930ies, and director Serhiy Paradzhanov. Their movies showed Ukraine as a particular land, which might have been a part of the Soviet Union politically, but was never a part of this state and Russia, in all other aspects. And of course those classic movies angered Russians, who always thought of Ukraine and Ukrainians as of something that belonged to them. Foreign celebrities also support Ukraine as much as they can. The first trailer for Superpower, a documentary about the Russian-Ukrainian war by American actor and director Sean Penn, was released in August 2023. "Ukrainians will win. The question is at what cost," Penn says off-screen. Ukrainian filmmakers have been on the forefront of this struggle for cultural recognition, first during Soviet times when Ukraine was a constituent republic and more recently since Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the emergence of the Donbas separatist movement. After the beginning of war in 2014, a new generation of Ukrainian cinema matured under the threat of Russian aggression, but also amid the hope for national renewal that came out of the Euromaidan revolution.

Після початку війни у 2014 році нове покоління українського кіно визрівало під загрозою російської агресії, разом з надією на національне відродження, що бере точку відліку від революції Євромайдану.

This edition of Ukraine Global is about the Third Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen held in Kyiv last week and how it is connected to the recovery of the mental health of Ukrainians. Such Summits under the guidance of Ukrainian leaders must be taking place. We need to talk about the importance of mental health in Ukraine, especially now when it is crucial. Still, only actions matter. Words are just words. The mental hospital of Pavlov in Kyiv is full of soldiers who come from the front and don’t know what to do in their lives. Culture directors create plays about PTSD in our ordinary lives. And it is just the tip of the iceberg if the whole nation is considered. The biggest problem is that the power circle is a bit cut off from the painful reality. One of the solutions for addressing challenging mental states is finding the appropriate kind of support. People often do not just believe book-wise counselors, - they often choose to trust those who have felt something similar, who have survived a similar experience. Another solution is inviting qualified specialists to Ukraine and applying the “on the ground” knowledge and real-time experience of therapists working and living in an ongoing war. The First Lady's and the government's support will be really helpful in our case.

Іншим рішенням є запрошення кваліфікованих спеціалістів в Україну та застосування «на місцях» знань і реального досвіду терапевтів, які працюють і живуть в умовах війни, що триває. І такі спеціалісти також є в Україні. У нашій справі підтримка першої леді та уряду дуже допоможе.

This edition of International Dialogue is about the modern political trends in Ukraine and how did it change recently. In 2019, new parties came to Verkhovna Rada, and new young leaders appeared there. It is very interesting to watch how the leading party, the Servant of the People party, invited a lot of new faces to them. Some of them had no political background, like M. Tyshenko. Still, the President said he believes them and wants to give a chance to people. A new generation of media managers and professionals in different spheres came to power. Sviatoslav Yurash became the youngest MP in Ukraine. He co-founded the cross- party conservative grouping Values. Dignity. Family in the Ukrainian parliament. He also voted against ratification of the Istanbul Convention in Ukraine. Today, we will talk with Sviatoslav about creating a new political culture in Ukraine, war realities, and how we can develop more our international connections with world partners. This edition is about the concept of Intermarium geopolitical project and why it is beneficial for Ukraine to be a part of it. According to Hannes Nagel, head of the Center for Crisis Studies in Estonia, the consequences of the most recent wave of Russian aggression in Ukraine in 2022 will change the world in many aspects - from international law to nuclear security and locally from regional cooperation to integration. Jacek Bartosiak, a Polish lawyer and geopolitical expert commented on Intermarium and the future of Central and Eastern Europe in the context of the war in Ukraine. He also pointed out that Russia is trying to divide the countries of Intermarium alliance through diplomatic games and stressed that in case if Ukraine fails- they will be the next target. Ukraine's desire and request to be accepted and become part of a larger and real European security system (NATO) and economy (EU) identical to Estonia is still in the interests of all the parties mentioned above. Without achieving these strategic goals, we would remain an eternal periphery of Europe with associated threats and limitations. On a European scale, it would be a real geopolitical catastrophe of the 21st century – to be so close and simultaneously so far in the corner of the European waiting room.

Яцек Бартосяк, польський юрист і геополітолог, прокоментував ініціативу Міжмор’я та майбутнє Центрально-Східної Європи в контексті війни в Україні. Він також зазначив, що Росія шляхом дипломатичних ігор намагається роз’єднати країни Міжмор’я, і наголосив, що в разі невдачі Україні вони будуть наступною мішенню. Бажання та прохання України бути прийнятою та стати частиною більшої та реальної європейської системи безпеки (НАТО) та економіки (ЄС), ідентична до Естонії, і все ще відповідає інтересам усіх згаданих вище сторін. Без досягнення цих стратегічних цілей ми залишалися б вічною периферією Європи з відповідними загрозами та обмеженнями. У європейському масштабі це було б справжньою геополітичною катастрофою ХХІ століття – бути так близько і водночас так далеко в кутку європейської приймальні.
