Ukraine, Russia lift bans on cargo-truck transit

Infrastructure Minister Andriy Pyvovarskiy told a cabinet meeting in Kyiv on February 24 that Russia had proposed lifting all limits on road cargo. With Russia moving to lift its ban, Yatsenyuk said Ukraine would reciprocate. He added that Ukraine may involve law enforcement officers to ensure safe transit of Russian trucks, some of which have been held up by protesters in Ukraine recently. Russian Deputy Transport Minister Nikolai Asaul told Interfax that "all the restrictions have been lifted permanently" as of February 25. Ukraine banned Russian trucks from crossing its territory on February 15 after a similar ban was imposed by Moscow, in their latest tit-for-tat retaliatory moves over the conflict in eastern Ukraine between the government and Russia-backed separatists.
