Ukrainian Library in Moscow to have new functions – Russian official

“This library is the only one in our network that has such a national aspect. There are no plans to dismiss and layoff somebody,” Kibovskiy said. He stressed that the library, as other similar establishments, will only acquire new functions. “The library at present is not just a place of the issue of books. The function of receiving a printed source at present is fading into the background, as there are electronic publications, there are specialized resources. At present, it is a cultural center, the place of meetings, communication, leisure activities,” Kibovskiy said. Earlier, on December 22, head of Moscow inter-regional relations and tourism department, Vladimir Chernikov stated that Moscow authorities decided to close the Library of Ukrainian Literature. According to him, the Multimedia Center of Slavonic Peoples will be created instead of the library.
