"The issue is being broadly discussed in the format of the UN General Assembly," Poroshenko told reporters after laying flowers in memory of the victims of the 9/11 tragedy in New York City. He said that the idea, initiated by France, was backed by Germany. "The idea is not to deprive [them] of the veto right but to impose certain limits on using the veto right in situations with multiple human casualties," Poroshenko said. According to him, the current right of veto in fact means the license to kill, which contradicts the basic principles laid down in the UN charter. Poroshenko expressed his belief that the eventual introduction of these amendments to the UN charter is inevitable.
