New rules for crossing border introduced in Ukraine
Slightly less than 1,900 Russian citizens crossed the Ukrainian border on the first day of the work of the biometric control system, according to a statement posted on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry on January 2, with reference to Oleh Slobodian, the assistant to the head of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
"Over the first 24 hours of the work of the biometric control system, the border was crossed by more than 3,300 foreigners, including nearly 1,900 Russian citizens, from the category that is subject to biometric control," Slobodian said.
According to him, there were no provocations on the border on the first day of the operation of the biometric control system.
"The system worked without failures. There were also no conflict situations or provocations. Citizens react calmly," Slobodian said.
As reported, on January 1, 2018, the system of biometric control for citizens of 71 countries which may pose threats to Ukrainians and Ukraine's national security, as well as stateless persons, was put into place at 157 international and interstate checkpoints and three control checkpoints on the administrative border with occupied Crimea.
