Ukraine calls on UN to review approaches to peacekeeping operations

"The UN peacekeeping missions are now trying to solve the problems of the XXI century with the obsolete instruments of the XX century," the Ukrainian representative emphasized. According to Yelchenko, it is high time to move to effective and simultaneously economical forms of conducting peacekeeping operations. In this regard, he stressed that Ukraine fully agreed with the need for structural reforms and the thorough review of the mandates of each mission, as well as the control over their effectiveness, "focusing on protecting the civilian population and reaching a political solution."
