Raising minimum wage to promote deshadowing of Ukrainian economy

Raising the minimum wage to UAH 3 thousand 200, proposed by the Cabinet of Ministers, is grounded on forcasted size of the consumer basket in 2017. This was stated by Minister of Social Policy Andriy Reva.

He said that raising the minimum wage in Ukraine from January 1, 2017 to UAH 3,200 will become possible at the cost of the Ukrainian economy. The government has no further plans to "print money", said Andriy Reva.

Meanwhile, Head of the State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov said that the increase in the minimum wage will promote deshadowing of the economy.

He said the government's initiative to increase the minimum wage to UAH 3,200 is only the first step. Next year the minimum wage should be increased to UAH 5 thousand, and then to 7500 UAH, said Roman Nasirov.
