EP backs 'Geneva plus' format on de-occupation of Crimea

"We are grateful for EP's resolution on the violations of the human rights in Crimea. The crimes of the occupational authorities won't be concealed. The EP backs an establishing of Geneva plus format. An important decision on the way for de-occupation of the Ukrainian Crimea," the president wrote on Twitter on Thursday. The resolution adopted by the EP on Thursday, reads: "European Parliament welcomes the Ukrainian initiative to establish an international negotiation mechanism on the re-establishment of Ukrainian sovereignty over Crimea in the 'Geneva plus' format, which should include direct engagement by the EU; calls on Russia to start negotiations with Ukraine and other parties on the de-occupation of Crimea." Previously, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that the ministry would insist on the organization of the constant monitoring of the situation in Russia-occupied Crimea by the representatives offices of the international organizations in line with the Geneva Convention, as well as Kyiv will insist on the extension of the Geneva format.
