Parliament recognizes genocide of Crimean Tatars

As Ukrinform reports, the decision was supported by 245 MPs. Thus, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, following the provisions of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, honoring the memory of victims of deportation of the Crimean Tatar people in 1944, expressing support for the Crimean Tatar people, condemning the totalitarian regime policies of oppression of the Crimean Tatar people, voted to recognize deportation of the Crimean Tatars from Crimea in 1944 as the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people. The Parliament also voted to declare May 18 the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Genocide of the Crimean Tatar People.
