Ex-president Kravchuk urges against economic sabotage in Ukraine
31-07-2009 14:41 Ex-president Kravchuk urges against economic sabotage in Ukraine
Ukraine's first president Leonid Kravchuk (1991-1994) is calling on the incumbent president, Viktor Yushchenko, and all of the presidential candidates not to resort to destabilization of the currency and financial market.

In his words, the new decline of the hryvnia poses a threat to economic stabilization of the past few months. The government's anti-crisis efforts, in the ex-president's words, yielded a certain result, and social benefits are paid stably today. Kravchuk noted that, according to experts, there are no grounds for the national currency fall now. At the same time, he said, the hryvnia is falling again, which owes mostly to political reasons. "This phenomenon has the author, but I will not call a concrete name.  Because there is a man who must put things into order in this country - Viktor Andriyovych Yushchenko," he said. Kravchuk noted that the President has all levers to stop speculations in the currency market.  "I will never believe that the President does not know who is the author of this disorder," he said. The first president says the central bank management must demand that neither the head of state, nor the government or any other officials claiming the presidency would interfere with the National Bank's policy in any way during the presidential election campaign.
