17-07-2009 10:46 President approves of Odesa portside factory privatization
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko supports privatization of the Odesa portside factory (South Ukraine).
After consultations with the Cabinet of Ministers, agreement was reached to the effect that the Odesa portside factory would be withdrawn from the list of facilities whose privatization Yushchenko earlier suspended. The terms the President set forth to the Government are existence of a real demand for the asset, its high starting price, and leaving the complex for the transshipment of carbamide and ammonia under the state's control. On July 15, the State Property Fund invited tenders to sell 99.567% of the shares in the Odesa portside factory. The starting price of the traded shareholding is UAH 4 billion (UAH 7.63 / USD 1). The tender was scheduled for September 29. 100% of open joint stock company Odesa Portside Factory belongs to the state and is controlled by the State Property Fund. The factory specializes in the production of ammonia and carbamide, as well as transshipment of chemical products coming from the Commonwealth of Independent States for export. In 2008, Yushchenko blocked the Cabinet of Ministers' attempts to hold a tender for the sale of the Odesa portside factory.
