08-07-2009 14:53 Tihipko planning to sell part of his business to participate in presidential elections
A major stockholder in the TAS Group, Serhiy Tihipko, has said he is planning to sell part of his business due to his decision to run for the presidency.
He said at a press conference in Kharkiv on Tuesday that the funds received from the sale of insurance companies, and the Kriukov Railway Car Building Plant, in which he owns a significant stake, would help cover election expenditures. Tihipko expressed hope that his supporters would also finance his election campaign. He said that talks were currently being held on the sale of a stake in the Kriukov Railway Car Building Plant, one of Ukraine's largest freight car producers and the only domestic manufacturer of passenger wagons and metro cars. He said that the plant would most likely be sold to Russia, particularly TransMashHolding, but added that any talks on the deal were premature.
