02-07-2009 16:10 BYuT proposes that MPs give up immunity Friday
The parliamentary faction of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc is planning to adopt at Verkhovna Rada's special meeting on Friday amendments to the Constitution providing for abolition of parliamentary immunity, Tymoshenko told a news briefing.
Tymoshenko reminded that the BYuT tabled in parliament on January 18 the bill on withdrawal of parliamentary immunity, which was adopted in first and second reading and sent to the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court, in the Prime Minister's words, approved the bill and sent it to parliament again. “We collected 150 votes to hold an extraordinary parliamentary meeting on Friday,” she stated. On Friday, Tymoshenko added, parliamentary immunity must also be withdrawn from BYuT MP Viktor Lozynskyi, who faces accusations of killing Kirovohrad region resident Valeriy Oliynyk. The BYuT also insists that Lozynskyi give up his parliamentary mandate.
