28-12-2008 17:26 Parliament approves list of memorable dates, jubilees in 2009
In 2009, Ukraine will celebrate the 990th anniversary since starting of ruling by the Kyiv prince Yaroslav the Wise, the 435th anniversary of publishing Apostol in the city of Lviv by Ivan Fiodorov, the 100th birthday anniversary of the Head of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists Stepan Bandera, the resolution of the Verkhovna Rada on state celebration of memorable dates and jubilees reads.
In particular, in 2009, Ukraine will also celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Poltava battle between the Russian and Swedish troops nearby Poltava (Center Ukraine), 70th anniversary of events related to proclamation and armed defense of the Carpathian Ukraine, 65th anniversary of the Stalin deportation of Crimean Tatars and people of other nationalities from the Crimea. Other memorable dates include 85th birthday anniversary of film director Serhiy Paradzhanov, 170th birthday anniversary of specialist in folklore, author of Ukraine's state hymn Pavlo Chubynskyi, 150th birthday anniversary of Jewish writer Sholom Aleykhem, 200th birthday anniversary of Mykola Hohol. The resolution on celebrating the 125th anniversary of the National Technical University Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (Kharkiv, East Ukraine) has also been adopted.
