12-02-2007 15:40 Orthodox Christians start celebrating Shrovetide today
It the last week before the Great fasting. The tradition to celebrate Shrovetide was adopted from pagans who saw winter off and met spring. Each Shrovetide day has its name according to which different entertainments were held.
The main traditional Shrovetide food in Ukraine were dumplings with cottage cheese that were taken with butter or soured cream.
