He said this addressing participants in a ceremony to open the Monument to All Generations of Defenders of Fatherland's Frontiers in Kyiv. Now that Ukraine borders on countries, which have joined the European Union, it is very important to improve the Ukrainian borderguard service to meet EU standards, Leonid Kuchma said.
He stressed that Ukrainian borderguards are engaged in the international community's effort to combat transnational crime, terrorism, drug trafficking and illegal migration. President Kuchma articulated his conviction that Ukrainian borderguards will continue efficiently protecting the Ukrainian State's territorial integrity and border inviolability.
