26-02-2010 14:27 Yanukovych, Lytvyn discuss situation in parliament
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn discussed the situation in the parliament at a meeting on Friday, information from the presidential press service.
The president stressed the need to urgently create an effective coalition and an effective government. "I want to discuss this with you as Verkhovna Rada chairman and the leader of an influential faction," Yanukovych told Lytvyn. He also criticized the absence of a law on the state budget for 2010. "Therefore, state finances and the economy are managed in a disorganized way," Yanukovych said. He also emphasized that talks on the creation of a parliamentary coalition should be stepped up on March 1, and he called on Lytvyn to organize such talks. Lytvyn, in turn, said that "the coalition in fact does not exist." He said that this could be proved by the fact that the coalition had approved only 130 out of over 2,000 bills in the Verkhovna Rada. "If there is a coalition in the Verkhovna Rada, there should also be the budget," he said, adding that opposition also has to work in the parliament.
