The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is checking reports of the seizure by Somali pirates of the Ariella, a Slovakian ship with Ukrainians on board.
"Respective instructions have been given to Ukraine's embassies in Britain and Slovenia," the ministry's press service reported on Friday. The Maritime Bulletin-Sovfracht Internet edition reported earlier that Somali pirates had seized the Ariella in the Gulf of Aden. The crew allegedly consists of seven Ukrainians, 15 citizens of the Philippines, a Slovene, an Indian, and a Bulgarian. The ship was sailing from Sevastopol, Ukraine, to Surabaya, Indonesia.
