02-12-2009 15:45 Ukraine-Brazil relations reach strategic partnership level
Relations of Ukraine and Brazil have moved to the level of strategic partnership, reads a joint declaration signed by the Ukrainian and Brazilian presidents in Kyiv on Wednesday.
"The current state visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Brazil opens a new page in our bilateral relations," Yushchenko said. According to him, today's bilateral negotiations on the whole spectrum of mutually interesting issues have demonstrated a common vision of bilateral, regional and international relations. The head of state said that during the talks Ukraine supported Brazil's candidature for the non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2010-2011 and is thankful for an official support to Ukraine's non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in 2016-2017. Dwelling on bilateral cooperation, the Ukrainian President said the parties have today managed to settle 'all unsolved issues in implementing the Cyclone-4 - Alcantara project'. The Ukrainian launch vehicle Cyclone-4 will be first launched from a Brazilian spaceport in 2010, Yushchenko added. An agreement was reached to launch a mineral fertilizer and insulin production in Brazil. The parties also agreed to enhance humanitarian cooperation. Yushchenko thanked his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva for attention paid to the Ukrainian community in Brazil. Apart from this, the Ukrainian and Brazilian parties signed six documents: intergovernmental agreement on air communication, on cultural cooperation, on partial refusal from visas. Ukraine and Brazil also signed an extradition agreement, as well as a protocol of intentions between Ukraine's State Nuclear Regulatory Committee and Brazil's National Commission on Nuclear Energy on cooperation in the field of nuclear safety and radiation protection.
