25-11-2009 11:50 Yushchenko: current election campaign is more tolerant than previous
Ukraine has a stake in a civilized course of political strife and unbiased assessment of election process by the leading democratic institutes of Europe, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said Wednesday during his meeting with members of the advanced team of the Special Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for monitoring the 2010 presidential elections in Ukraine.
The President emphasized that to him as the head of state the chief priority is to guarantee democratic, transparent and open election process, and duly reform the election legislation. Touching on the course of current electoral process in Ukraine, Yushchenko noted that it is "much more tolerant than five years ago." "In the legislative field, although slowly, we are still moving towards formation of laws that would guarantee human rights and the freedom of choice," he added.
