This is what Mykhailo Holubchykov, head of the health ministry's medical statistics center, told a news briefing. He said that it caused the death of 14 people. He also added flu and pneumonia killed 4,020 in nine months of 2006, 4,720 in 2007, 4,972 in 2008 and 3,822 this year.
In his turn, First Deputy Health Minister Vasyl Lazoryshynets said a total of 969,247 people contracted acute respiratory virus infections and flu in Ukraine during the first nine months. In the past two days, the number of flue cases essentially reduced. At the same time the situation is still serious with the patients undergoing stationary treatment.
