Svitolina becomes fourth racket in world tennis ranking

Due to her riumph at the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Premier 5 tournament in Toronto, Canada, Elina Svitolina was able to climb one more step in the WTA ranking and take 4th place.

This is reported by Ukrinform.

For Svitolina, as well as for national tennis, this is a new personal record (in the singles of the WTA), as well as a repeat of Andrei Medvedev's record, the ex-fourth "racket" of the world at the Association of Tennis Professionals (APR). Medvedev took fourth place in the men's classification at the end of May 1994 at the age of 19 years and held on this position for three weeks.

Elina Svitolina became the first tennis player in the history of the tournament, who managed to take three consecutive titles in the Premier 5 tournaments since the start of the season (the system was introduced in 2009). In the past eight seasons at WTA, no tennis player has won three titles of this category, even in an arbitrary manner. Two trophies at Premier 5 for the year were collected by Carolyn Wozniacki (2010), Maria Sharapova (2011), Serena Williams (2013, 2014) and Victoria Azarenko (2013).

Recall that Svitlina has got already the fifth cup in the current season (Taipei, Dubai, Istanbul, Rome, Toronto). Elina holds first place in the number of titles this year.
