Ukraine asks United States for major non-NATO ally status

"Ukraine seeks to significantly deepen bilateral security partnership between Ukraine and the United States... In accordance with the spirit and letter of the Budapest Memorandum [on security guarantees to Ukraine], as well as for the sake of development of strategic partnership between our states, we ask the United States to consider the issue of concluding the defensive agreement with Ukraine and granting Ukraine the major non-NATO ally status," reads the Verkhovna Rada resolution. It also notes that granting Ukraine the major non-NATO ally status and conclusion of the US-Ukraine bilateral defence agreement will have a huge impact on ending the Russian aggression against Ukraine, deterring the aggressor and preventing the large war in Europe. This is in the interests of Ukraine, the United States, Europe and the entire world, the document reads.
