Mejlis is the highest representative body of the Crimean Taars that has been banned as extremist organization by Russia which annexed the Crimean peninsula in March 2014. According to the report, he was charged with posting on a social networking site a video and photos from a 2013 rally held in Crimea by Hizb ut-Tahrir, the organization which is banned in Russia, but freely operates in Ukraine.
