Cabinet forbidden to cut spending on courts

The Constitutional Court banned the Cabinet to cut spending on the courts, recognizing unconstitutional the transfer of the government authority to regulate financing of courts. Such powers violate the principle of separation of powers in the country, endangering the functioning of judicial independence. The question of financial security of judges may be subject only to the law, not the acts of the Cabinet, according to the Court's decision. Earlier, the Constitutional Court judges returned the lifetime allowance, truncated last year. Now monthly payments of retired judges may again exceed UAH 10 thousand.
