Ukraine cuts electricity consumption by 11.1% in ten months

A source in the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry told Interfax-Ukraine that electricity consumption, excluding in-process losses, fell by 11.9%, to 97.618 billion kWh. Industrial enterprises, excluding in-process losses, reduced electricity consumption by 18%, to 41.683 billion kWh. In particular, the steel industry consumed 24.307 billion kWh (14.2% down compared to January-October 2014), fuel industry 3.614 billion kWh (42.2% down), machinery building 2.908 billion kWh (18.1% down), chemical and petrochemical 2.389 billion kWh (25.9% down), food and processing sectors 3.327 billion kW-h (10.8% down), construction materials 1.705 billion kWh (8.5% down), others 3.434 billion kWh (10.7% down). In addition, agricultural companies consumed 2.781 billion kWh (4% down), transport - 5.476 billion kWh (9.1% down), construction - 593.8 million kWh (13.2% down). Over the first ten months in 2015, the public consumed 29.856 billion kWh (5.9% down), households - 12.387 billion kWh (8.1% down), other non-industrial consumers - 4.841 billion kWh (7.3% down). The share of industry in total electricity consumption in January-October 2015 decreased from 45.8% to 42.7% compared to the same period of 2014, while the share of the population rose from 28.6% to 30.6%.
