Steinmeier sees chance to stabilize situation in Donbas

"We are on the right track in settling the Ukrainian crisis. The ceasefire has been observed for two months already. After the elections in eastern Ukraine were postponed, we have the chance to stabilize the ceasefire and agree on further withdrawal of weapons," Steinmeier said. The diplomat reminded that the West had given the right response to the annexation of Crimea and the Russia's actions in eastern Ukraine, including by exerting the economic pressure. At the same time, the dialogue is being maintained in order to find the solution at the negotiating table. "Germany and France have managed to prevent the conflict from escalating into the military confrontation between the two countries," Steinmeier commented on the role of Berlin and Paris.
