The Turkish authorities have opened criminal cases against those who violate Ukrainian territorial waters, Ukraine’s Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko said in an interview with Focus magazine.
"In maritime areas, as well as in air space, Crimea is Ukrainian territory. We are preparing for a dispute in the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea regarding the illegal takeover of ports and naval infrastructure," he said. The minister also noted that Russia had violated the Convention on International Civil Aviation, as Russian aircraft entered Crimean air space. "Currently, the sum of our claim is 300 million hryvnias, or 20 million dollars. According to the ICAO, the air space above Crimea is Ukrainian territory. Thus, the judgment, I hope, will be the required one," Petrenko said. As reported, in July 2014, Petrenko said that Ukraine had calculated a fine worth UAH 200 million to Russia for violating Ukrainian air space and would demand compensation. Ukraine has also closed international boat traffic in Crimean seaports in Yalta, Feodosia, Kerch and Yevpatoria.
