Border Service says work of Ukrainian officers on clearance of Russian humanitarian aid blocked

22-08-2014 15:48

The State Border Service of Ukraine has said that the work of Ukrainian border guards and customs officers on the clearance of Russian humanitarian aid at the Russian Donietsk checkpoint has been blocked.

The Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council has said that the responsibility for the safe travel of a Russian humanitarian aid convoy through the territory in Donbas is temporarily not controlled by Ukrainian troops and rests solely with Russia. As reported, Ukrainian border guards and customs officers cleared 34 trucks carrying Russian humanitarian aid on Thursday, the press service for the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service reported on Friday. "The total weight of the cargo is over 260,000 kilos. It's composed of cereals, salt and water," the Ukrainian State Border Service reported. Two of the 34 trucks are carrying medication, the report says. The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service also reported that the humanitarian cargo had not been handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
