The Ukrainian side has appealed to the United States for support to release Ukrainian female pilot Nadia Savchenko, who is illegally held in Russia after she had been abducted by the armed pro-Russian separatists near Luhansk, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oleksandr Motsyk told reporters on Friday.
"We immediately informed the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Congress that we have yet another flagrant violation of international law, namely, illegal, illegitimate transportation of Nadia Savchenko to Russia, her detention and investigation against her. We asked to support us in the process of her release,” the Ukrainian ambassador said. Concerning the reaction of the American side, the diplomat said: "The U.S. clearly understands that it is a violation of international law and human rights." He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the embassies of our country abroad, including in the United States, will work to ensure that Nadia Savchenko be released.
