Poroshenko: Ukraine to step up arms production

09-07-2014 14:22

Ukraine will increase production of its own arms to meet the needs of the military, President Petro Poroshenko said after a meeting with the security forces in Sloviansk on Tuesday.

"My first deputy together with the newly appointed head of Ukroboronprom, together with representatives of the General Staff, deputy defence ministers and representatives of the Interior Ministry held a meeting to prepare changes to the government defence order," he said. The head of state noted that this order and the production "will be fully based on the experience that the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard gained during the fighting in the east." "No more spending of billions of people's money, taxpayers' money on useless research programs that contributed only to theft. Today the Ukrainian production will be uploaded with precision weapons systems, Ukrainian drones, everything that the Ukrainian army needs - from bullet-proof vests to thermal imagers," Poroshenko said. "The Ukrainian army will be able to fight effectively, be mobile, and professional," the head of state assured.
