Russia is ready to legally guarantee a $100 discount on the price of gas for Ukraine, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said this in Brussels on Wednesday after the next round of trilateral talks on the terms of Russian gas supplies.
"As for guarantees on the provision of the discount, we've accommodated the European Commission's proposals, and for a period of one year we're prepared to provide the relevant guarantees or sign the necessary documents in the form of protocols to inter-governmental agreements. That is a legal formula can be found," he said. He recalled that a package proposal from Russia envisages a return to the $100 discount for Ukraine in the price per thousand cubic meters, which was in effect earlier. As reported, Ukraine's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said on Wednesday that Kyiv would not accept Russia's proposal on the gas price discount and demanded changes to the gas contract.
