Ukraine prepares to sue Gazprom in Stockholm arbitration - Prodan

11-04-2014 12:05

Ukraine is preparing to file a lawsuit at the Stockholm arbitration court under a contract between Naftogaz Ukrainy and Russia's Gazprom, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan has said.

"When does the government plan to file a lawsuit in the arbitration court on the cancellation of an agreement between Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukrainy? This work has been going on from the first day I assumed office [as energy minister]. Today we are thoroughly preparing the respective documents and revising the disadvantageous conditions that currently exist in the contract between Naftogaz and "Gazprom of 2009," he said in parliament on Friday. Prodan added that lawyers who have experience of litigation with Gazprom were being involved in this work. "We are attracting international lawyers who have the experience of work with companies that filed claims with the Stockholm court against Gazprom. These issues did not reach arbitration - Gazprom settled these issues with European countries through amicable agreements," he said. Prodan said that the current price of Russian gas for Ukraine was unfair and politically motivated.
