A tense stand-off continued overnight across the southern region, where Ukrainian troops remain blockaded in their bases.
Ukrainian soldiers continue guarding the country's military bases in the Crimea, amid reports that some of the Russian and pro-Russian forces surrounding them have returned to their bases. At the same time Russian sailors have sunk a decommissioned anti-submarine ship, the Ochakov, at the entrance to Lake Donuzlav in western Crimea to prevent Ukrainian navy ships gaining access to the Black Sea, the Ukrainian news agency Unian reports, quoting a military source in Sevastopol. The sinking was the latest in a series of moves by Russian naval forces. Earlier the mouth of the bay was blocked by 10 Russian vessels including the formidable guided missile cruiser Moskva.
