Safiullin: Ukraine hopes to win medals in biathlon and freestyle at Olympic Games in Sochi
Ukraine hopes to win medals in two sports at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Youth and Sports Minister Ravil Safiullin has said.
"Our athletes have shown good results in various competitions in biathlon and freestyle. I'm talking about the sports in which we hope to win medals at the next Olympic Games," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday. "We have very little hope of winning medals in any other sports," Safiullin said. He said that the Ukrainian team would participate in the competition in 11 out of 15 sports. Ukraine will be represented by about 45 athletes at the Olympics. Safiullin said that Ukraine would pay national athletes $125,000 for a gold medal, $80,000 for a silver and $55,000 for a bronze.
