Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said he expects effective cooperation from the government and the Verkhovna Rada in talks on further preparations for the signing of an Association Agreement with the EU.
"I expect close interaction from the government and parliamentarians during negotiations on the preparation of an agreement that would be beneficial to Ukraine and meet its national interests," he said, while opening a meeting of the Council of Regions in Kyiv on Thursday. Yanukovych said that Ukraine was continuing its dialogue with the EU on further ways for real and effective cooperation. "It's not a stop, it's a rethinking and further movement," he added. Yanukovych said that officials who insufficiently honestly prepared a draft Association Agreement must be punished. "Those officials who failed to conduct respective procedures, coordinate the agreement with the unions of commodity producers, hold a respective discussion and reach a mutual understanding must bear responsibility for that. I expect proposals from you," he said, while addressing Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.
