President Yanukovych has submitted to the Parliament a new draft law on the prosecutor's office, his adviser Andriy Portnov told a briefing on Thursday.
“This is another step of the President aimed at reforming the justice system. The Constitution stipulated that the prosecutor's office continued to perform oversight function of compliance with the law and the function of preliminary investigation. Now the President proposes to abolish these two functions. 112 specialized prosecutor's offices will also be eliminated," Portnov said. According to him, the function of representation of citizens by prosecutors in court will be cancelled as well. "This representation will work only with minors," he said. Reform of the justice is one of the requirements for signing the Association Agreement with the EU.
