The transition to a completely contract system of recruitment in the Ukrainian army does not take into account the current threats. This is what Svoboda party MP Yuriy Syrotiuk said at a round-table meeting "Military security threats and problems of the reform of Ukraine's Armed Forces".
According to him, such a transition is common for the countries which are members of the military-political blocs and do not have direct borders with potentially dangerous neighbors. It is also small countries that do not have regional ambitions. And even some NATO members do not abandon the recruitment completely. ''Ukraine this year announced the last call-up, while maintaining a similar system of recruitment for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Perhaps with the introduction of the army reservist system the authorities will try to compensate for the shortage of servicemen,'' Syrotiuk emphasized.
The MP believes that the system involving reservists can be effective only when it covers most of the population.
