President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated his German counterpart Joachim Gauck and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on the occasion of the national holiday – the Day of German Unity, and thanked them for their help in the European integration of Ukraine.
“Without a doubt, the processes of the late 1980-s – early 1990-s in Germany were not only crucial for the development of that state, but also laid the basis for the formation of a new order in Europe. They opened up new prospects for the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe, including Ukraine. We are grateful to Germany for help in implementing important reforms in this country. We hope for effective support of the Federal Republic of Germany for the European integration course of our country,” reads the congratulatory message. Yanukovych expressed confidence that the Association Agreement with the EU, which is expected to be signed in Vilnius this November, will start a new stage in the Ukraine-Germany relations.
