The construction of the confinement arch over the destroyed Unit No. 4 of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant within stabilization activities at the Shelter Facility will end in 2015, NPP Director General Ihor Hramotkin told reporters.
"We are now in the second phase of building a new safe confinement. On Sunday we began the third erection of the first part of the arch. After half of the arch is in operation position, we will move it into the working area, and begin construction of the second part of the arch. Hramotkin added that the new safe confinement, having the service life of 100 years, will make it possible to carry out extraction of fuel-containing materials which are in the Shelter and their subsequent processing for safe storage.
