The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is ready to assist in European integration of Ukraine, NATO's Deputy Secretary-General Alexander Vershbow said at the international conference entitled 'The role of international organizations in national security of Ukraine.'
At the same time, he noted that NATO respects Ukraine's choice to adhere to the non-aligned status. He said that despite the status of Ukraine, the cooperation between NATO and the country has recently become more efficient and fruitful. In particular, he emphasized that Ukraine had contributed much into the assistance to peacekeeping missions and tackling critical situations in Kosovo and Afghanistan. As RUI earlier reported, Ukraine intends to intensify political dialogue and practical cooperation with NATO in all issues of mutual interest in 2013. President Viktor Yanukovych has approved annual national program on cooperation with NATO.
