The European Commission will not comment on reports in the media about the existence of a strategy of Moscow aimed at preventing the European integration of Ukraine.
As reported, the Mirror Weekly UA wrote on August 17 about an alleged Russian government strategy aimed at pulling Ukraine into the Moscow-led Customs Union. The newspaper published a document entitled “About a package of measures aimed at engaging Ukraine into Eurasian integration process. Objective necessity and subjective factor." “I can't really comment on this document as regards whether it's authentic or not,” EU Trade Spokesman John Clancy said at a press conference in Brussels on Thursday, when asked if the European Commission knows about this document. “So, I can't say anything on behalf of the commission about that.” When asked whether Brussels will ask Moscow if the document is authentic, Clancy said that this was not in their competence. "I don't think that it is for us to do, if it is an internal Russian document. We will have a dialog on commercial matters as we usually do. But I have not officially been informed about this document," he said.
