Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev have said they are confident that trade wars between Ukraine and Russia are impossible. This issue was discussed during a phone conversation between the prime ministers of the two countries. The parties also discussed the current state of trade and economic relations between the two countries, as well as complications that have recently occurred in customs clearance of certain goods that are supplied from Ukraine to Russia. Azarov and Medvedev noted that speculation that these complications are allegedly related to integration processes between the two countries is groundless.
The Ukrainian prime minister said that intensive work conducted by authorized working groups last weekend had led to significant progress. The two premiers said that the main goal now is to return the positive dynamics of bilateral trade, which has recently slowed slightly. Azarov and Medvedev also noted that a priority in bilateral cooperation should be a program for investment cooperation, first and foremost, in high-tech industries.
