Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky is on a visit to Russia on March 21-22 to discuss cooperation between the two countries in nuclear power technologies at a meeting with Russia's State Nuclear Energy Company Rosatom Director General Sergei Kiriyenko.
Kyiv and Moscow are currently implementing two major nuclear power projects in Ukraine. One of them allows Ukraine's Nuclear Fuel state concern and Russia's TVEL firm to build a plant in Kirovohrad, central Ukraine, where fuel will be manufactured for VVER-type nuclear reactors using Russian technologies. The third and fourth power generating units of the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant, western Ukraine, will be equipped with Russian-designed nuclear reactors. Russia and Ukraine are also discussing plans to establish a joint venture for uranium conversion and enrichment on Russian territory.
