WBA lets Volodymyr Klychko delay fight against Povetkin

31-01-2013 16:33

The World Boxing Organization (WBA) has granted special permission for world heavyweight champion Volodymyr Klychko to hold, before a bout with WBA regular champion Alexander Povetkin, a fight with another contender if agreement with the Russian is reached by February 28, 2013.

"If that happens, the bout [against Povetkin] should be scheduled no later than July 31. Otherwise, an auction will be held among promoters on March 18 for the right to hold this fight," reads a statement posted on the official Web site of the WBA. The fee for the fight between the Ukrainian and the Russian should be split in the following proportions: 75% for Klitschko and 25% for Povetkin. If Klychko is defeated during a voluntary defense of his titles before the fight against Povetkin, the money will be split equally between the two boxers. As reported, the World Boxing Organization (WBA) obliged Volodymyr Klychko to hold a fight with Alexander Povetkin by February 24, 2013.
