The Ukrainian parliament has appointed Igor Sorkin as National Bank Governor.
His predecessor, Serhiy Arbuzov was earlier appointed to the post of First Vice-Premier. "The main tasks for the National Bank this year are to strengthen the national currency and the trust in it, to lower interest rates on credits, to increase refinancing of banks, and to bring bank control in conformity with EU requirements," the new governor said in parliament on Friday. Sorkin said that the central bank would exert maximum effort for resuming cooperation with the IMF and the World Bank.
